Do you want to learn how to write great middle grade stories like the ones you love to read? In this camp, we will explore how to give our characters agency and adventure! Each day, we will read a chapter of a great middle grade book, from beloved authors like Jason Reynolds, Pam Muñoz Ryan, Jaqueline Woodson, and R.J. Palacio. We will discuss how these authors bring their characters to life and let them make important choices. We will practice elements of writing that make wonderful middle grade stories so fun to read, including: creating lovable characters, narrating in a compelling voice, giving characters agency in the plot, and crafting fascinating settings. You will come away from the camp with a character, setting, and plot, all ready to write in your own middle grade story. This course is perfect for writers who want to create stories where kids are the main characters!
